Name

The school is named after Dr. Justin Wakeland, who served as the superintendent of the Frisco ISD for 19 years, preceding the current superintendent Dr. Rick Reedy.[1]

Media

The school has a bi-weekly television show called Win-TV, which features many interesting segments and interviews about what's happening at Wakeland High School.

Wakeland Access, the newspaper, is sent around at lunch every so often that features various articles about events at the school.

The yearbook staff, the Prowler, compiles a yearbook for the school. The yearbook for the 2006-2007 school year was titled "Blueprints" in honor of the school's first year. The second volume for the 2007-2008 school year was titled "Coming Full Circle" in honor of the school finishing its first year with all four grades and having its first graduating class. In the 2008-2009 year, the yearbook was entitled "Awakenings" and featured a recycled look. In 2009-2010 the yearbook was entitled "Greater Than" and featured many > symbols. In 2010-2011 the theme for the year book is "Insight" and features a Plexiglas cover and insight into students lives at Wakeland.
